The question

How do fare patterns differ between routes with pre-merger Delta–Northwest overlap and comparison routes?

The approach

I construct passenger-weighted route-quarter fares from DB1B-derived market summaries, estimate route and quarter fixed-effects models, and examine event-study trends and sensitivity to route definitions and weighting.

WHAT THE ANALYSIS SHOWS

Pre-merger trend differences limit causal interpretation. Comparing sample definitions is essential to understanding what the estimates can—and cannot—tell us.

Explore the analytical workflow
  1. Audit the inputs. Check schema, missingness, duplicate keys, and data provenance.
  2. Build the panel. Aggregate passenger-weighted fares and classify pre-merger route exposure.
  3. Estimate and challenge. Examine fixed effects, pre-period trends, and alternative samples.
  4. Communicate uncertainty. Document assumptions and distinguish regression contrasts from causal effects.
